After his stint in the military he got his bachelor’s in Accounting from UT-Knoxville and married Lynn Rule from Maryville. They settled in Etowah when Wayne got a job as an environmentalist with the McMinn County Health Department, from which he retired after 30 years.

He was an avid fisherman and was a member of the BassMasters club for many years; a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Etowah and loved to play the piano (for family), watch football (especially the Vols) and fishing.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Lynn (Rule) Newman; four children, Wayne Lewis Newman Jr. (Louie), daughter Helen and her husband Thomas Mullins, son, Hearl Newman and his wife Amy, and daughter Kathy Newman; 3 grandchildren, William (BJ) Mullins & his wife Danielle, Michelle and her husband Jonathan Parrott, and Arti Mullins and her fiancé J.J. Thompson; 2 great-grandchildren,  Archer Mullins (son of William Mullins) and Kaylee Parrott (daughter of Michelle Parrott).

He is preceeded in death by his brother, Tony Newman; his parents, Lewis and Effie Newman; his sister, Peggy Ownsby; a niece, Aileen Ownsby; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Newman.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 9th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Bordwine Funeral Home in Etowah with the Funeral Service beginning at 8:00 PM in the Chapel with the Rev. Jason Humbert officiating.  Family and friends are asked to assemble Thursday morning, May 10th at Greenhill Cemetery for the 11:00 AM graveside service.
