I have known Joy since I was little girl. Hazel and her watched after and my brother Jimmy and me while mom and dad (Ruth and Jim Brown) went to Atlantic City years ago. I remember especially the waffles we ate! My girls (Michele and Chelsy) have know her all their life too. She will always live. She touched our hearts in so many ways! She has been a mentor and an inspirational friend to me. If I can be 1/2 the woman she was, that would be awesome! The day she passed I was with my youngest grand-daughter at the park in Cleveland and I looked into the blue skies and saw Joy\'s smiling face and knew she was at peace. We all loved Joy very much!! May God be with each of you and that you each will have Peace during this time.
My memories of Joy go back to those of a little 3 year girl who stayed with Ms. Hazel while Mom and Dad worked. I waited every day for \"my Joy\" to come home from work. Mint tea and all the goodies in her room were never off limit to me. She was there the night the Lord saved me at church and too many other memorable things to write about, but that I will never forget. No one is closer to Jesus side than Hazel and now Joy. Heaven is full of JOY today.

Joy was the perfect example of a child of God -- her light always shined for Him in a dark world and she will never be forgotten by all who met and knew her. The world would be a much better place with more people like Joy in it! Heartfelt sympathy to Joy's family.

Dudley, I was saddened to read of Joy\'s death in the DPA on-line. She and Hazel (and you) were very special people to our family in the years 1958-64. I send you my sincere sympathy.

Norman,Pam,Amy and Kelly,
We are so sorry for your loss. She certainly put up a good fight and you certainly did everything you could do to help her get well and come home. It is hard to lose a loved one, especially one so young, but we also know how hard it is to lose one that you have been trying to help for as long as you have been. Since we could not be there in person to show our support and love due to sickness, we just wanted you to know we are thinking of you, we send you our love and to let you know we are praying for you. She is now in a much better place and is happy and not suffering any more.

Joy was a wonderful lady. I know she brightened many peoples lives. I know that she brightened mine by a message that she sent me some months back. I knew her from Bowaters. I left there in 2006 and now work in Montana. As Joy being a christian. I know that we will get to see each other again. To all of her family and loved ones. Make sure you will also.

I wrote this poem (see below) five years ago about Joy. She was such an inspiration to me and I loved her dearly. I am saddened by her abrupt departure, but I know she's in a better place. My only regret is that I wish I'd spent more time with her. I was lucky to have known this exceptional lady.
JOY
Joy was her given name And she wore it exceptionally Lifting up shades of gloom A guiding light for by others to see
You promptly forgot that this extraordinary dame Was never quite the homecoming queen, exactly The moment you entered her radiant room Always inspiring others to be the best they could be
Her health once dreadfully lame By His hand made a full recovery No doubt God created her with a very special loom Manifested in her that “it’s better to give than receive”
This “fair lady” treated everyone the same She always took the back seat merrily No children from her womb But like “the woman who lived in a shoe,” had dependents aplenty
Edgemon was her untarnished surname In large part due to her integrity Also, in that she never took a groom Said her sermon by the life she led, a model for mere mortals like me
To everyone here, Joy would be honored you came She passed through this world most graciously A 7-letter epitaph shall emblazon her tomb “R.I.P. A V.I.P.”

You never once doubted she was a Chistian. The whole family was one of my favorites way back when I lived in Englewood.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I have known Joy since we were young girls (my sister Hazel, married her uncle, Kirk Stamey) and I always thought she was aptly named. She was one of the most \"joyous\" people I ever met. The last time I saw her was at my sister Hazel\'s funeral in April, 2007.

Joy was a good friend and an inspiration to me over the years. I've known her for more than thirty one years and always found her to be a great source of encouragement. Her Faith in God and her desire to serve Him was evident in her daily life. She will be missed, but I am happy for her and know that she is now rejoicing.
