James “Jim” Edward Hipps, 64, of Etowah, died Sunday morning, November 15, 2009 at Woods Memorial Hospital.A native of Greenback, Tenn., he was a son of the late Robert Franklin and Eva Katherine Shadden Hipps.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Hipps and Margaret Hipps Longmire; and one brother, Bud Hipps.Survivors include one daughter, Tammy Hipps of Etowah; two sons, Anthony “Tony” Hipps of Ackworth, GA., and Bryan Hipps of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one sister, Betty Thompson of Etowah; one brother, Earl Hipps of Maryville; three grandchildren, Kyndra, Zoey and Emily; and special friend, Al Cox of Washburn, TN. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 in the South Chapel with the Rev. Mark Hensley officiating.The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday prior to the service.Immediately following the funeral, all family and friends are welcome to attend a dinner to be held at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Englewood.
