Although the sun is shining, my day is cloudy having just learned of Bobby’s passing when I called Willa to inform her of the passing of one of our other cousins who lived in Lenoir City. It was then that she informed of Bobby’s passing last month. I was blessed to have Bobby also call me ‘for work’ at times when he had the territories that I ran on at CSX out of Louisvillle. When he had any (x-tra) time, we could ‘catch up’ on family ‘news’ or get to talk ‘sports’, or railroad ‘news’ that we both might be affected by for a few precious minutes after he had given me my ‘call’ for work. When I last spoke with him in June, I had high hopes that he would recover & looked forward to seeing him when he did. But, getting the news today was a double shock in light of the passing of my other cousin on Tuesday. Rest well dear friend, I will miss you & valued knowing you all these many years. My best always to Willa & ‘the boys’.

    Dear Sanford Family,
I have haven’t lived in Etowah for over 35yrs. now, but I did have the honor of seeing Bobby just a few years back when I came up and helped Daddy with one of the railroad reunions that they hold at the depot. It was great to put a face to “that voice”. I told him then that I hoped he realized how much families like mine had always appreciated his ability to be cheerful with his greetings even at 3 a.m. It takes a special person to have the job of waking half a town in the middle of the night and come out without any enemies but Bobby did it, and did it well. He will be missed by all the friends he made.
God bless you all, you are in our prayers and I know my Daddy, Harvey Blassingame would want me to tell you this as well.
