Dr Elwood was my New Testament professor in 1967 fresman year in Silliman, at the Divinity School. Having had no previous introduction to paper writting, he basically became my writting instructor for the Christian Discipleship paper as well. Had always enjoyed the blessing of his lectures at the School. He loved the Lord
My sincerest Sympathy and

Doug was a very dear friend, I have many happy memories of spending time with him both in Dumaguete City, Philippines and in Etowah.
We had many a good laughters together, the last ones only a year ago. We went bowling together on the TV. Doug was a Master of many skills.
Doug will always have a place in my heart.
With Love, Thank you Doug.

Dear Bettie and family,
Just today we were arranging books on a bookshelf in the retirement community where we have moved. Some of those books were ones that Doug wrote. The book that he gave us when we last visited you was one we used many times. He was a faithful Christian who shared his faith in many winseome ways.
We remember his beautiful voice, seeing him on the tennis court, working in his downstairs study, and enjoying his growing family. His contributions in the Philippines were deep and broad, too many to innumerate.
We pray God’s comfort and strength to you tomorrow through the burial and beyond. He is in a better place unencumbered by bodily limitations. For him the joy of being in God’s presence for eterinity is now a reality.
Our deep sympathy to all of your loving family.

My deepest condolences to Colleen and tbe Elwood family
Doug was a wonderful person, always sharing. His conversations were most interesting -
especially the funny illustrations he gave to enhance his point. He was lovable, kind and
faithful to all. He lived as he Believed!
Doug’s wit, humor, and wisdom will be greatly missed. Now, he can entertain in heaven with just one more joke. Bettie, you and the family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Dear Bettie and family,
Thinking of you all on this day. May the Lord give you peace today. It was special to have known Doug. I remember the birthday party that we shared in Dumaguete so many years ago in the Philippines.
With love.

When I was a student at Silliman from 1948-55, Rev. Dr. Douglas Elwood was not there yet. After finishing my medical degree at U.P., I went back to Silliman to be a resident physician at its Medical Center in 1960, the year he joined the faculty of Silliman. I learned of the very productive career of Dr.Elwood at the campus; he was very well-liked by faculty and students. He also became a Mason at my Mt. Kaladias Lodge No. 91, so he is my fellow Traveler.
After I left Silliman in 1964 to train as a surgeon in the US, I continued to learn of the added scholastic responsibilities he assumed at that school, through the Silliman U. Newsletter. He left a trail of brilliant accomplishments as a Professor of Theology and high-level University Administrator. I also learned of his rise in the Masonic hierarchy from our masonic bulletins.
He has traveled widely in this world. He has served humanity and the Church of our Lord exceedingly well. His high scholarship level is documented by the many books he authored, the lessons he taught, and the special lectures he gave. His loving concerns for the kids in the streets knew no bounds.
He has now gone to join the GAOTU and will be welcomed by Him with open arms.
He is truly a decent human being, a Minister of the Word, a Scholar and a true Masonic Brother, who cared for Jesus, and also the unwanted street urchins of this world. Our prayers for Brother Doug Elwood on his ascent to the Lord’s heavenly mansion, and to his family on earth.

My prayers are with you and the entire family, Bettie. Prof. Elwood taught and trained hundreds of pastors and other church leaders in the Philippines and all over Asia. For that we are truly grateful to him and his family.
